Volunteering is an enjoyable, educational and affordable way to explore the world and we welcome volunteers to live and learn at the beautiful 19-acre community of Kawai Purapura.

Our volunteers are our life-blood. In exchange for 18 hours work each week (six three-hour days or three six-hour days) we provide accommodation, complimentary morning yoga classes, a great environment of 40 international volunteers to share your time with, free access to our festivals, and a swimming pool, spa and sauna! The minimum length of stay is three weeks.

There’s a range of work available with the accommodation team, kitchen, retreats/events team, gardening, building and the all-important, keeping our home clean!

Semi-Permanent Volunteer Positions

We require people with an events background on an ongoing basis, preferably for periods of 3 months or longer, to assist our retreat and venue team.

This is a busy retreat centre and you will need to work to a high level of professionalism with fluent English, good interpersonal skills, and a high level of customer service.

The role includes setting up and packing down venues, so you will need an eye for detail
You will be a responsible and self-directed worker
Strong administrative skills an advantage (Excel & Word)
Must be able to work weekends
Hours are 18 hours per week volunteer (in exchange for accommodation)

A unique opportunity to play a key role on the accommodation team, overseeing the day-to-day operations of retreat accommodation. Role requires a high level of administration skill, and ability to multitask under pressure and supervise volunteer assistants.

Tasks include:

  • Preparing all retreat accommodation for guests
  • Responding to enquiries via email & phone, taking group & casual guest bookings
  • Maintaining weekly booking sheets
  • Supervising volunteer team to ensure the high level of retreat room standards are adhered to
  • Hours are 18 hours per week volunteer (in exchange for private accommodation), and an additional 12 hours paid per week
Three+ months position
Training starts in July 2017

Our receptionists are the face of Kawai Purapura performing an important role of welcome to guests, retreatants, other volunteers and residents. The role is split into three and rostered across the week. It is a busy one that requires a lot of trouble-shooting and administrative tasks. You need to have a great people manner, fluent English and be computer savvy (Word, Excel, etc). We are seeking individuals who can remain calm under pressure and have an infectiously positive presence to bring to this position.

This position starts half of August.
Due to the training required, we need volunteer receptionists to stay a minimum of 3 months
18 volunteer hours per week (in exchange for twin-share accommodation), and an additional 6 paid hours each week at $16 per hour.
You will require to have a valid NZ work visa.

Do you have landscaping, painting, building, arborist skills, or more? Kawai Purapura Retreat Centre is looking for a fit and energetic person to maintain and co-create a beautiful peaceful and inspiring environment. A great opportunity to become part of a motivated and fun team, creating facilities for our Yoga School, Sacred Earth, Yoga Festival and Conscious Community at Kawai Purapura Retreat Centre. You will have 19 acres of bush, streams, gardens and retreat facilities to oversee, with the assistance of other volunteers.

Due to the continuity of the work we ask you to stay a minimum of 3 month
18 volunteers hours per week

You will coordinate lots of hands-on marketing tasks, like online marketing, the monthly newsletter, updating our web content, posting on social media, sending mail outs from Mailchimp, and lots of copy writing and editing. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and WordPress are essential.

These roles are available at any one time preferably running Jan-Mar, Apr-June, July-Sept, Oct-Dec though other times will be considered

An amazing opportunity to work for a non-profit organisation seeking to make positive change through yoga, health and healing and consciousness change. Looking for a talented and creative person to assist with designing, developing and preparing information for up to our four websites (this one, yogafestival.nz, voicesofsacredearth.co.nz, yogatraining.nz).

Tasks include preparing all retreat accommodation for guests, responding to enquiries via email & phone, taking group & casual guest bookings, maintaining weekly booking sheets, supervising volunteer team to ensure the high level of retreat room standards are adhered to.

A unique opportunity to play a key role on the accommodation team, overseeing the day-to-day operations of residential, casual and retreat accommodation. As Accommodation Assistant, you will be in charge to help managing our two accommodations teams. This role requires a high level of administration skills, a person who can remain calm under pressure, be computer savvy (Word, Excel, etc), and show an ability to multi-task.

Tasks include:

  • To oversee the cleaners and ensure cleaning is kept to high standard.
  • Deal with residential contracts and relevant paperwork
  • work with Filing systems and excel spread sheets.
  • Help residential accommodation manager when necessary (Welcome new potentials residents).
  • work as part of the retreat accommodation team, learning booking systems and brainstorming accommodation packages.

This position starts asap.
