Kawai Purapura provides the opportunity to delve and immerse oneself into a tranquil and peaceful environment located on a stunning 19-acre property surrounded by vast bush and streams. This is the ideal location for those wishing to live in an eco-friendly and conscious community of like-minded people. We currently have approximately 90 residents living in our holistic village, including a rich and diverse community of natural therapy students, practitioners, artists, musicians and environmentalists.

Kawai Purapura invites individuals from all over who wish to make a commitment to living in a holistic village dedicated to natural health and healing, eco-friendly living, spirituality, service and education. Kawai Purapura is also a Retreat Centre. As a resident you get generously discounted prices to community classes, hire venue space, festival tickets, yoga retreats, yoga teacher training and the Maori healing course.

Kawai Purapura is located only 25 minutes from Auckland City and an easy stroll to Westfield Albany and Massey University.


Health & Therapies

Kawai Purapura has created our holistic village as the ideal place for natural therapy practitioners to live and practice. Our residential practitioners often offer discounted treatments for fellow residents.


We believe in and promote eco-friendly living. We aim for zero waste, reducing energy and water consumption. We use eco-friendly products where possible, and our residents have the chance to maintain our organic orchard and their own veggie gardens.


Through spiritual practice we foster the understanding of divine consciousness and a sense of unity for all. Our spiritual activities on offer through community classes, events and retreats include meditation, yoga, kirtan, dharma talks, and discussion groups.

Nature Trails

Kawai Purapura is surrounded by serene and lush nature offering myriads of beautiful nature walks providing yourself with the space and time to re-connect with oneself, back to mother-nature, relax or meditate, visit the magical glow worm spots, and wind around the stream paths.

Community Events

Kawai Purapura are active in creating a sense of community through a variety of free monthly community gatherings such as: open mic night, kirtan night, and the full moon drumming circle. As Kawai Purapura also advocates a Vegetarian lifestyle we offer a weekly vegan community meal on Monday nights, Hare Krishna dinner on Wednesday, and an inspirational movie night on Sunday’s.

Free Classes

Kawai Purapura encourages a spiritual practice for a deeper exploration into who we are and to find our authentic selves so that we are grounded each and every day. We offer a diverse range free yoga & meditation classes for the community by qualified residential teachers.

Accommodation Options

We have a variety of accommodation choices for you to choose, such as single or double rooms, sleep-outs and bush studios All residents co-sharing the charming kitchen space Rangimarie and shower/toilet facilities. All areas are set in a beautifully lush and green surrounding.

Accommodation is available from $215 per week, including expenses. This covers the cost of power, water, gas, phone, internet/wifi, an economy heater, and general household expenses. They also cover the use of the 25 meter non-chlorine swimming pool and use of the organic community garden.

Please note that Kawai Purapura is a smoke, alcohol and drug free environment, and also primarily vegetarian.
